Mrs. Nellie J. Anderson, one of the old time residents of this section of Kansas, died at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Viola May Antene, southwest of Delphos on January 7, 1938, at the ripe old age of 84 years, 1 month and 28 days.
Nellie Josephine Taylor was born in Greeley, Iowa, November 12, 1853. She was the eldest of six children. She grew to womanhood in Iowa and was united in marriage to Mr. John Barker of Delphos and to this union four children were born. They are Arthur Barker of Keyes, Okla., Mrs. Edith Scheibler of Oskaloosa, Ia., Mrs. Nellie Scheibler of Salina, Kansas and Thomas Reed Barker who died while his father was county judge. Judge John Barker died in 1908. Late in life she was again married to a Mr. Anderson.
Mrs. Anderson was well and favorable known in the community. She was a faithful member of the Methodist Church and a long time member of Class Thirteen. She was also a member of the Rebekah lodge.
She greatly enjoyed needlework and many of her quilts and embroidered pieces were exhibited at the fairs of Delphos and Minneapolis. As she had been an invalid for several years' death was not unexpected and came as a relief. So this humble faithful soul passed on to her reward and answered the summons. Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.
A sister, Mrs. Joe Haley lives here and a brother in Iowa. She also leaves 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren to mourn her decease.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J.A. McClellan of the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon and burial in the family plot of the Delphos Cemetery.
