GEORGE TAYLOR Born April 15, 1925, Died June 11, 2011 George Robert (Bob) Taylor, age 86, passed away peacefully at home on June 11, 2011, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.
He was born April 15, 1925 in Ogden, Utah, the third of six sons born to Leslie Alfred Taylor and Blanche Baird Taylor. George served in the South Pacific as an Aviation Radioman on the Black Cat PBY's in the US Navy in World War II where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for bravery. George was always proud of his country and the service he gave.
He married Lois Ohlson on January 5, 1945, in Ogden, Utah, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake temple. In 1959, George and Lois moved to Logan when he began working for USU. He retired from there many years later. They had six daughters, Nancy Borg (Lynn), West Jordan; Carole Jensen, Salt Lake; Lois Amussen (Doug), Hyde Park; Lysle Langston (Albert), Cheyenne, WY; Mary Lou Froman (Don), La Quinta, CA, and Vera Hardy (Wayne).
George and Lois were married for sixty years. After her death, George was reunited with a childhood friend, Glenna Brady, and they married in October, 2007. Glenna has been a great blessing in the last years of his life.
George loved his life in so many ways. He loved music of all kinds, especially classical, and has more Readers Digest CD collections than anyone we know. He was always active and loved fishing and camping, golf, snowmobiling, motorcycling, racquetball and karate, just for starters. He especially loved his little ranch by the river, and grew the biggest carrots around, and every other kind of produce as well.
George also loved learning and teaching the doctrines of the LDS church. He served in many different callings, including as a temple officiator for 5 years, but loved teaching the Gospel Doctrine class the most. George loved his family and encouraged his children to learn and grow in many ways. We thank him for showing us how to work hard by his example, and to seek learning and knowledge unceasingly. May his Spirit fly free of his tired body, back to his Heavenly Father and those who loved him and have passed, knowing we who remain love him still.
He is survived by his wife, Glenna, one brother (David Claire Taylor, Virginia Beach, VA), five daughters (named above), 22 grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife Lois, and daughter, Vera.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 16, 2011 in the Logan 7th Ward Chapel, 565 East 100 South in Logan.
Burial was in the Logan City Cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion.
