Edith Murphy, age 88 of Carmi, died Wednesday afternoon, December 17, 2008 in Mt. Vernon, IN. She was born May 30, 1920 at Monroe, TN, the daughter of Joel and Nova (Taylor) Clark. She married Ivan Murphy on January 24, 1941 at Cape Girardeau, MO and he preceded her in death on March 31, 2003.

Mrs. Murphy had worked as a cook at the White County Nursing Home for several years. She loved to collect dolls, was very proud of her flowers and was an excellent cook. She was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Lionel Ackerman of Carmi and Helen and Clifford Bell of Norris City; three grandchildren, Jeff Wolfe of Crossville, Justin Pepperworth of Brookings, SD, and Rise Blades of Canada, Grand Forks, British Columbia; five great-grandchildren, Jesse and Scott Blades, Ronald Pepperworth and Jon and Shelby Lees; two great-great-grandchildren, Jay and Stephanie Blades; one sister, Pauline Angulo of Baldwin Park, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, Clyde Clark; and two sisters, Ethel Dalrymple and Maxine Morris.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday December 21, 2008 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home/Kittinger-Fair in Carmi with burial in Union Cemetery near Fairfield. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday December 20, 2008 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home/Kittinger-Fair in Carmi.
