Jean Chitwood
Mrs. Jean Taylor Chitwood, wife of former Carmel mayor John. Chitwood, died yesterday at Community Hospital, after a long illness. She was 66.
Her late husband, a retired U.S. Navy commander, was Carmel's mayor in 1967.
A native of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Chitwood had been a Carmel resident since 1914. Her father, the late Peter Taylor, was a charter member of the Carmel City Council, winning election in 1916, the year Carmel was incorporated as a city.
Mrs. Chitwood was active in many phases of community life. She was a former president of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of the Commodore Sloat Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
For many years she made her home on Monte Verde Street near 5th avenue.
She leaves a son, John S. Chitwood of Tucson, Ariz.
Friends may call at the Paul Mortuary from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow.
Private family services will be held on Sunday, with inurnment following at the Monterey City Cemetery.
Contributions are preferred to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Monterey Peninsula branch.
