LaNea Taylor Allred passed away from complications following surgery at the McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah, with family members present on February 11, 2008. LaNea was born in Star Valley on March 31, 1926 to Clarence Taylor and Viona Oletha Williamson. She was the third of six children.
As a young child, LaNea learned to work hard on the family ranch. She was a meticulous housekeeper and took pride in the appearance of her home. This is something she learned from her mother.
She graduated from Star Valley High School in 1944.
On February 2, 1944, LaNea married Von D. Allred in the Logan LDS Temple. They made their first home in Afton. Together they had four sons, David (1945), Edwin( 1947), Michael (1951) and Mark (1956).
With Von, she helped build a basement home south of Afton in 1948. Later they finished the upper story of the home in 1960. Due to Von being involved in a serious accident in 1959, LaNea started working part time at the Lower Valley Power and Light Company. She advanced to become Office Manger and retired in 1986.
In 1987, LaNea and Von built a home in St. George and became snow birds during the winter months, returning to Star Valley each spring.
LaNea was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was active all of her life. She served in many positions within the ward and stake including the Relief Society and as President of the Young Women in the Osmond Ward.
LaNea loved to camp and fish. She spent many wonderful days on the Greys River with her husband, sons and friends.
In 2003, she was diagnosed with Bile Duct Cancer and underwent major surgery. She was blessed to recover and she and Von continued to spend winters in St. George until the spring of 2005. Even though she had health problems of her own, she cared for her husband until his death on November 17, 2007.
LaNea was preceded in death by her husband her brother, Merrill; a sister, Dora Mae; her parents and a son, David.
She is survived by a brother, Ralph; two sisters, Rose and Claire; a daughter-in-law, Ivy; three sons Edwin (Linda); Michael (Sheryl) and Mark (Darlene).
Services were held in the Afton LDS Tabernacle on Saturday, February 16. Internment took place in the Afton Cemetery.
