CRISFIELD -- Jean Tawes, 83, of Crisfield died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury after a two-and-a-half-year battle against cancer. Born in Crisfield on Oct. 10, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Willis and Edna Savage Adams. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Crisfield, where she taught Sunday school for many years and enjoyed helping with the soup kitchen. An avid gardener who loved cooking, reading and crocheting, she crocheted hundreds of newborn baby caps for Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Jean is survived by her husband of 66 years, Norris "Scorchy" Tawes of Crisfield; four children, Pay Gray and her husband, Harry, of Salisbury, Butch Tawes and his wife, Justine, of Marion Station, Tim Tawes and his wife, Bobbi Lynn, of Marion Station and Jeanne Hanke and her husband, Bob, of Marion Station; nine grandchildren, David Tawes, Brian Tawes, Andrew Tawes, Kymberly Tawes, Michael Gray, Leslie Westfall, Lisa Gibson, Ashley Hanke and Robert Hanke; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. Pastor Jack "Tad" Maroon will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunnyridge Memorial Park near Crisfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jean are requested to be sent to First Baptist Church, 1 S. Somerset Ave., Crisfield, Md. 21817; or to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802-1733.
