Mrs. Effie R. Gerald, one of Crisfield's most highly esteemed matrons, died in the McCready Hospital here Friday of last week, following a long illness. She was 75 years of age.
Born here, she was the daughter of the late N. Wesley and Margaret Cox Tawes, and the widow of the late Alex Gerald.
Mrs. Gerald had a very pleasing personality, was kind and gentle, a fine neighbor and friendly to everyone she knew. She had for many years been a member of Immanuel Methodist Church, attending its services and enjoying the fellowship there.
She had been active and energetic until illness handicapped her efforts, and was much interested in current affairs, especially of a social or civic nature. She was a member of old and prominent Somerset families and was held in high regard by all who knew her.
Funeral services were held in the Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home here on Monday, at 2:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev. J. Howard Link, pastor of Immanuel Methodist Church. Burial was in Asbury Cemetery.
Bearers were A. W. Tawes, Jr., William S. Sterling, Fred B. Gerald, Marvin H. Tawes, J. Edwin Tawes and Phillip W. Tawes.
Surviving her are a stepdaughter, Mrs. Mary Gosselin of Warren Pa., a sister, Mrs. Ruth Tawes of Santa Monica, Calif., a brother, Thomas Howard Tawes of Coral Gables, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.
