Removed from Kentucky to Greene County, Ohio in 1804-5 with the migration of the Sugar Creek Seceder Church congregation under Rev. Robert Armstrong.
Also included in the migration was William Tate, Hugh Tate, John Tate and his wife Susannah (Whitehill) Tate and their sons Capt. David M. and Capt. James S. Tate (veterans of the Civil War), Joseph Tate and his wife Elizabeth, James Tate, as well as Ebenezer Andrew and his wife Hannah and their son James.

Enlisted at age 33 on 8 May 1862 as 1st Lieut. in Company I, Ohio 95th Infantry Regiment. Promoted to full Captain on 9 Dec 1864 and musterd out on 14 Aug 1865 at Louisville, KY.
