Selby C ‘Buck' Tarter, 78, of 1620 Arlington Road, died January 10, in Home Hospital. He had been a patient there since December 27, and had been in ill health for two and a half years. He was born on January 15, 1921, in Linden and graduated from Dayton High School. He had lived in the Lafayette area most o his life. He married Mary E Ward in Mulberry on March 6, 1942, and she survives. Mr Tarter was employed by Sears as an auto department manager for 28 years. He retired in 1973. He had also worked for Alcoa. He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post 11. Mr Tarter was a sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World Was II. Along with his wife, he is survived by two sons, Michael H Tarter of Lafayette and Timothy C Tarter of Knoxville, Tennessee; three sisters, Katherine Abercrombie of Santa Barbara, California, Rosella Herbert and Betty Rankin, both of New Port Beach, California and five grandchildren. Richards-Loy and Wheeler Funeral Home handled arrangements with the Rev Ann Smith officiating. Entombment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens mausoleum with America Legion Post 11 Grave-side rites.
