Elizabeth Tarpley Foster died Jan. 13, 2009, in Dallas and would have been 100 on her birthday in two weeks.
She was born Jan. 27, 1909, in the community of Taylorville, daughter of Leona and J. Lee Tarpley and lived her long life in Leonard, Harlingen and Dallas. She received an undergraduate degree from Hardin Simmons University at Abilene and a graduate degree from Texas A&M University-Commerce at Commerce.
She was a career teacher in the Texas public school system and retired in 1977 from the University of Texas at Brownsville at Brownsville where she served 16 years as chairman of the Department of English. Mrs. Foster was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society, Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and National Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by her son, Larry White and wife Carole of Dallas; two grandsons, Jeffrey White and wife Laurie of Piedmont, Calif., and Christopher White of Dallas; great-grandchildren Sam and Halle White of Piedmont, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Eddie Foster; sisters Frances (Sunshine) Tarpley Taylor and Sudie Taylor Clark; and a brother, Truett Tarpley.
Interment and graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Grove Hill Cemetery north of Leonard.
Visitation will be from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Friday at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Leonard.
