Obituary from Birmingham News.April, 1923____ Mother and child Die in Same Hour A funeral cortege led by two hearses, passed slowly into Elmwood Cemetary at 1:30 o'clock Monday, where the bodies of Mrs. Melvinia Jones, aged 67 years, and her daughter Mrs. M. N. Lance(Verby), were laid to rest. The two died at the home of Mrs. Lance at 3016 Avenue C Sunday morning. Mrs. Jones passing away at 3:40 o'clock following an attack of pneumonia, while her daughter died seven minutes later. Funeral services were held from the family residence at 12:30 o'clock with the Rev. Wm. H. Mansfield, pastor of the First M. E. Church officating. Both women had lived in Ensley for a number of years and have host of friends who are saddened by their death. Mrs. Jones is survived by three sons, Gordon, F.M., and Watson G. Jones. Mrs. Lance is survived by her husband, three sons and four daughters and a three day old infant.__Birmingham News.
