Jean Dorothy (Talmadge) Bloom
Shamokin Dam, PA
Jean Dorothy (Talmadge) Bloom, 84, of Shamokin Dam, PA entered into eternal rest on Saturday morning, January 12, 2008 at the Penn Manor Nursing Home in Selinsgrove, PA.
Formerly of Goshen, NY, she moved to Shamokin Dam, PA to live with her son (Bill) and daughter-in-law (Patsy) in December 2000 after becoming very ill. Mrs. Bloom was born on July 15, 1923 in Bedford Hills, NY. She was the daughter of the late John and Nora Talmadge. She was raised by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kinder of Brooklyn, NY. She was married for 25 years to the Anthony D. Bloom and they enjoyed 35 years of happiness together. Jean was a graduate of the Saint Mary's Immaculate Conception School in Brooklyn, NY. Mrs. Bloom was an active volunteer for many years at the Orange County Cerebral Palsy Treatment Center Association in Goshen, NY. After her husband's death, she was employed there and worked for another 20+ years until she retired in June 2000 when she was diagnosed with cancer. A special "bench" is still in place there in her memory. Flowers, appropriately named "Bloom's Blooms" were planted nearby. She was a member of St. John's Church in Goshen, NY. She enjoyed knitting, beautiful house plants and being around friends and family. She absolutely loved animals and will be sadly missed by her family, friends and our dog Mickey.
She is survived by her son: William J. and wife, Patricia of Shamokin Dam, PA; daughter-in-law: Susan Bloom of Goshen, NY; cousins: Rosemary Rieffer and James Flanagan both of Brooklyn, NY; nieces: Sharon and Donnie Minkus of Slate Hill, NY, Debbie and Karl Van Valkenburg of Grahamsville, NY, Bonnie and Tommy Mac Adams of Sloatsburg, NY; grandchildren: David Bloom and companion Judy Ferry of Apopka, FL, Courtney and Eddie Lacik of Crowley, TX, Joe Cabe and companion Leah Eskew of Ruidoso, NM; great-grandchildren: Ryleigh Bloom and Landon Lacik of Crowley, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband: Anthony D. Bloom; her son: Daniel A. Bloom (who just passed away Jan 1, 2008) and her very special aunts -- Mae and Camilla and her Uncle Jim.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan 15 at the T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 22 Glenmere Avenue, Florida, NY with burial directly afterward at St. Joseph Cemetery in Florida, NY. Per her request, there will be no viewing.
Because of her love for animals, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Danville SPCA, 2801 Bloom Rd, Danville, PA 17872.
