Elizabeth was born in Henry Co, KY to Abel Bland (1787, NC-1865, AR) and Ann James (1793 in KY-1860, AR). She moved to Hempstead Co, AR with her family when he was 14. Her future husband's family was part of their wagon train. She married Edward Talkington (Jul 4, 1870 in Daysville, Logan Co, KY-Jul 4, 1870) on Sep 9 1830 in Hempstead Co, AR on Sep 9, 1830 in Hempstead Co, AR. They had 11 children: Joseph (1831-1905), Mary Malissa (1832-1893), James Allen (1834-1867), Elizabeth Jane (1836-1897), Stephen jasper (1838-1863), Sarah Ann (1840-1903), Joel Dyer (1842-1926), John Wesley (1844-1863), Almira B (1846-1863), Eliza Martin (1848-1863) and Clementine Lucinda (1852).
After living for several years in Cane Hill, Washington Co, AR, they settled in Tomlinson, Scott, AR where Edward was a successful farmer and the first minister of the Coop Prairie Church in Mansfield. They were apparently pro-Union, in a southern state, and lost two sons, two daughters, and two sons-in-law during the Civil War. Elizabeth died on April 7, 1872 in Mansfield, Scott Co, AR. Edward and Elizabeth share a headstone.
