Columbus Republican 25 Nov 1933 MRS. AIKIN IS TAKEN BY DEATH Well Known Resident of Flatrock Township Passes Away.
Mrs. Martha Isabelle Aikin, 73, widow of Lewis Aikin, died last night at her home in St. Louis Crossing. Death was due to a complication of diseases. She had been ailing for some time but her condition did not become serious until lately.
Funeral arrangements have not been made but burial will be made in the Owens cemetery.
Mrs. Aikin was born Aug. 11, 1860, at Clifford, the daughter of Philip and Elizabeth Strickland Talkington. She was married to Mr. Aikin on July 27, 1876, and he preceded her in death several years ago. She spent her entire life in the county and was well known. She was a good woman and was devoted to her family. From early life she was a member of the Hawpatch church and was active in church work until her health forbid.
Surviving are seven children, Daniel, of Franklin, Frank, address unknown, Mrs. Virginia Hanks, of Hope, Mrs. Georgia Ross, James W., of Rushville, William, of this city; Mrs. Etta Slusher, of Flatrock; two sisters, Mrs. Etta Lambert, of Edinburg, and Mrs. Freeman Henderson, of Indianapolis; three brothers, Lakin Talkington, of this city; Charles of Miami; Holliday Talkington, of this city, and fifteen grandchildren.
