Mary Alice "Tabe" Griffin, 76, of Newport Beach, CA, died Sunday.
Tabe was born to the late Frank and Louise Tabor on June 6, 1935 in Carson City, Michigan. Tabe graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1952, attended Aquinas College and received a Bachelor in Music from the Western Michigan University in 1956.
She married Charles E. Griffin, Jr. in 1958. Tabe moved to California to be a teacher when she married and became a homemaker and mother.
Tabe's passion was always music and she pursued this singing at St. John Vianney and later Our Lady Queen of the Angels choirs, and occasionally taking on the position of choir or music director. Tabe went back to her teaching roots becoming the music teacher at Our Lady Queen of the Angels School. She was also the music director at St. John Newman in Irvine from 1981 to 1983. Tabe joined and sang the women's music group Vox Femina in 1995.
Mary was an active member of Our Lady Queen of the Angels Catholic Church and the Assistance League in Newport Beach. She loved to ski, and took many trips with her husband in her lifetime.
Tabe is survived by her husband and four children: Charles E. Griffin III, Mark A. Griffin, Nora L. Storm, and Mary K. Molerivic. She also is survived by six grandchildren.
A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2011 and the funeral will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Our Lady Queen of the Angels, 2046 Mar Vista Drive, Newport Beach.
Interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City.
