Alice Louise (Taber) Bailey, 88, formerly of Dartmouth, MA, died Monday, May 27, 2013, at Hope and Hospice Care of Rhode Island after a brief illness. She had been living at Winslow Gardens, a United Methodist Elder Care Health Community for the past eight years. She was the wife of the late Ralph Leigh Bailey. They were married June 16, 1951.
Born in New Bedford on Sept. 20, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Edna Taber. She graduated from New Bedford area schools in 1942. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in New Bedford.
She graduated from Bouve'-Boston School of Physical Education in 1945. Her education was interrupted during the war when she served as a lieutenant in the WAVES at Great Lakes, III. Following discharge from the service, she received a bachelor's degree from Tufts College in 1947 and majored in education at Northeastern University.
She worked at Rochester Rehabilitation Center 1947-1951, married, and started teaching in 1961 at the Ingraham School in New Bedford, then to Gomes School when it opened until 1985 when she retired from teaching.
She loved ballroom dancing, playing the piano, bible study and the witnessing of her Lord and savior Jesus Christ. She will be sorely missed.
Survivors include a son, George S. Bailey and his wife, Penelope of Dartmouth; a daughter, Lois Bailey of Rumford, Rhode Island; a brother, John Taber and his wife, Joan of E. Hartford, Conn.; a brother-in-law, Milton Pinchbeck of Acushnet; two grandchildren, Alyssa and Sarah Bailey; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Lois Pinchbeck.
