John W. Tills, Sr., pioneer resident of Kosuth (sic) where for twenty-four
years he was engeged (sic) in farming, died at his home at Rockwood early today
after an illness of four months due to stomach trouble. Funeral services will be
held Thursday afternoon from the home at 1 o'clock, with interment in this city.
In the passing of Mr. Tills another of the hardy pioneers of the county passes
on and his passing will bring a keen loss to those who knew him as a man of
kindly impulse, high character and a friend ever ready to respond to the call of
those who needed him. A man who made friends and held them, whose life was
unmarred by enmity of man, he leaves a legacy of a life well spent to the memory
of his family. During the weeks of his illness the high esteem in which Mr.
Tills was held was attested by the many visitors and anxious inquiries as to
condition and with his death, sincere sympathy is tendered.
Mr. Tills was a native of Rapids, this county and was born there 64 years ago.
He later took up farming in Kossuth and some years ago retired and made his home
in Rockwood. Besides his wife he is survived by five children, Herman C. on the
farm at Rockwood, Charles, this city, J.C. Tills of Detroit, Mrs. Ida Krumdick,
this city and Elsa at home. Four brothers survive, David and August at Rapids,
Charles of Kossuth and William of Waterford. Six grandchildren also survive.
