HERMAN THOKE
Herman Thoke, 82, former Manitowoc resident and father of Alderman R. F. Thoke
of the First ward, died last night at Milwaukee.
His death occurred at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ernst Krause, with whom he
made his home following his removal to Milwaukee from here.
Mr. Thoke was born in Germany in 1858 and in 1884 was married to Bertha Helser.
In 1891 they came to Milwaukee and in 1900 moved to Manitowoc. Mr. Thoke was
employed by the Rahr Malting company until 15 years ago when he retired. He was
a member of the First German Evangelical Lutheran church here. Mrs. Thoke died
in 1920.
In 1936 he moved to Milwaukee to reside.
Survivors are five sons, William of Vancouver, Wash., Rudolph of LaGrange, Ill.,
Herman of Wauwatosa, Robert F., and Gustave of this city; daughter, Mrs. Krause,
of Milwaukee; and 15 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Vogelsang funeral home,
with interment in Evergreen cemetery. The body will arrive from Milwaukee Sunday
afternoon and may be viewed at the funeral home until the hour of the services.
