Esther E. (Symons) Case
Dec. 30, 1940 ~ October 16, 2012
If you could only fly, there'd be no more lonely nights….
Esther E. Symons-Case, loving mom to Tom, TimmieSue, Tonya and Mike passed away on October 16, 2012 at Montrose Memorial Hospital from complications of an extended illness. In the end she was surrounded by those who knew and loved her immensely. It was her strong heart that gave us all hope for a brighter tomorrow, she never gave up.
Esther was born to Ernest and Wilma Symons in Norwood on December 30, 1940. A fond memory of Esther's was how she came into this world. As her parents were headed to the hospital in Norwood, her mom, Wilma had to get out of the car to push the vehicle out of a snow bank. So her beginning was brought about by hard work and perseverance.
Those that knew Esther recognized her big hearted ways. She loved to do things for other people, especially baking. She was known for her fried cinnamon rolls and carrot cakes. Everyone loved receiving baked goods from her. During the holidays you could smell the wonderful aromas of all the goodies that she was preparing for her family and friends.
Esther was brought up in Nucla, where she attended the Nucla Schools. She was an avid athlete, and was active in sports as a young girl growing up. Her favorite sport was softball. She enjoyed playing ball and she loved watching her children play all their sports. You could always tell when she was in the stands, her voice loud and clear, cheering.
Esther had four children Tom (Sharon) Bacus of Montrose, TimmieSue (Merrill) Edgerley of Fairbanks, Alaska, Tonya Bacus and Mike Bacus of Montrose. She had ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Ernamae, Bill, Don, Kim and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Although her battle was long, she fought hard and almost won. When the end was close, her strong heart kept beating amazing her doctors and nurses. Of course, her family knew how strong of a woman she was, so it came as no surprise.
Esther is preceded in death by both of her parents and her husband, Gary Case.
Graveside Services for Esther will be at the Nucla Cemetery on Friday, October 19th at 1:00pm. Viewing will be held at the graveside prior to services.
