CLYDE — Charles Gaston Swofford, 64, city attorney from 1960 until the mid-1980s, died Saturday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Joplin and the Rev. Riley Fugitt officiating. Burial will be in Clyde Cemetery, directed by Bailey Funeral Home.
Mr. Swofford was born in Winters and moved to Clyde as a child. He graduated from Clyde High School in 1953 and from the University of Texas with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He graduated from UT law school with a law degree and moved to Clyde from Austin in 1960. He had practiced law in Clyde since that time. He was a member of Clyde Lions Club, Abilene Bar Association, State of Texas Bar Association and First Baptist Church. He married Mary Elaine Scott in 1953 at Wylie.
Survivors include his wife, of Clyde; two sons, Charles Swofford of Atlanta, Ga., and John Swofford of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Diane Horner of Baird and Lynne Settle of Austin; his mother, Gladys Swofford of Clyde; one brother, Jerry Swofford of Clyde; and nine grandchildren.
