PITTSFIELD -- Charles A. Swift, 81, a resident of Madawaska Avenue, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at his home in Pittsfield.
He was born in Pittsfield on Aug. 8, 1926, the son of Charles E. and Evelyn (Wing) Swift.
He graduated from Maine Central Institute with the class of 1944. He served our country in the Army during World War II. He married Patricia Crossley in 1972 and was employed by the United States Postal Service as a general foreman of the mails in Kansas City, Mo. They moved to Pittsfield together in 1985.
Charlie enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved to travel with Pat and together they enjoyed riding and sight-seeing throughout the state of Maine.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Patricia Swift; his children, Arthur Randolph "Randy" Swift of Kansas City, and his daughter, Kathleen Avery, of Sarasota, Fla.; his grandchildren, Amanda and Jared, of Kansas City; two sisters, Doris Bubar of Burnham and Joyce Steward of Eddington; and 17 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 5, at the Village Cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, Pittsfield.
