Oct. 13, 1930 - July 15, 2009ANDERSON — Naomi Ruth (Sweeny) Conrad, 78, of Anderson, died of an extended illness, at her residence on July 15, 2009.
She was born Oct. 13, 1930 in Mishawaka, moved to Anderson when she was 16, where she lived until 1955. In 1974, she returned to Anderson and resided there until her death.
She was a nurse missionary in Kenya, Africa, for the Church of God from 1955 to 1960. While in Kenya, she was honored to play the piano for one of Billy Graham's Crusades. She was the night supervisor of the Wabash County Hospital, in Wabash, from 1962-1963; later taught at the School of Nursing at Anderson University from 1974-1982. She retired from nursing in 1982.
She earned her RN degree from St. John's School of Nursing, Anderson; Bachelor of Science from Ball State University in Muncie, and graduated in 1954 as a Certified Midwife from Bromley College, England. She attended Park Place Church of God in Anderson. She loved her church and its activities. She was a musician who played the piano and organ, and sang in the church choir. She belonged to the Women of the Church of God Missionary Society.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Harold A. Conrad of Anderson whom she married Dec. 31, 1960; her children: Debbie A. (Conrad) Hamer and husband Bob of Escondido, Calif., Loren H. Conrad and wife Susan of Westfield, Becky F. (Conrad) Towle and husband Patrick of Noblesville, Paul A. Conrad and wife Tami of Maysville, Ky.; grandchildren, Erin (Hamer) Horner and husband Pastor Grant of Lexington, Ky., Joe Hamer and wife Jennifer of Camp Lejeune Marine Base, N.C., Matthew Conrad and wife Jessica of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ashley (Conrad) Ravensberg and husband Bob of Carmel, Ryan Conrad and wife Meagan of Fishers, Amy and Allyson Conrad of Westfield, P.J. Towle and wife Angie of Fishers, Dan Towle and wife Kristin of Noblesville, Brandon, Haley, Justin and Malory Conrad of Maysville, Ky.; great-grandchildren, Kilee and Wyatt Horner, Samantha and Abigail Ravensberg, Stratton Hamer and Isaac Towle; brother and wife, Norman Sweeny and wife Marie of St. Paul, Minn.; nephew, Philip Sweeny; two nieces, Susan Trent and Sarah Dudas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred E. and Mary Irene (Maughn) Sweeny.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Park Place Church of God, with Dr. David E. Markle, Dr. Donald D. Johnson, Rev. Philip S. Bruzzese and Dr. David L. Coolidge officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Park Place Church of God.
