Mary Fern Avila Mary was born on January 3, 1925 to William H. Sweeny and Eva F. Hunter (Sweeny) Shumway in Auburn, CA. She passed away peacefully in Eureka on October 29, 2012. A long-time resident of Humboldt County, she graduated from Eureka Sr. High School. She was well known for her artistic talents. She worked with ceramics and made jewelry. She painted many beautiful pieces of artwork, mostly landscapes, barns and ocean scenery. She enjoyed toll painting on various items such as saws, milk jugs and wooden stools. A past member of the Old Town Art Guild, she was well known in the community for the beautiful art she created. She made many friends at the Flea Market by the Bay where she created and sold her work until they closed its doors. She will be greatly missed. Mary is survived by her sisters Lois Sweeney and Alice McKinna-Nelson and brother in law Ben Woods. Her sons Robert Woods Sr., Gerald Woods, Edward Woods, and Larry LaFrance. Grandchildren Levi LaFrance, Michelle Woods-Flores, Jennifer Woods-Snyder, Jeffrey Woods, Matthew Woods, Bambi Woods, Robert Woods Jr., Trevor Woods, Great grandchildren Jacquelynn Snyder, Angela Snyder, Weston Owsley, Stormy Woods, Robbie Woods, Bryon Woods. Many Great-Grandchildren, cousins nieces and nephews. Richard Valentine, William and Kaye Woods, Peggy Woods Petty, Wendy Woods, Sherry Woods, Dana Kay Arias, Julia Nottingham, Jesse Arias, Julie Woods, Nancy Pace. Judith Burgess, Raymond and Sheila Nicol, Lillian Soutch, Merle and Barbara Hunter, Cledith Davenport, Merta Johnson, Wayne Woods, Judy Woods, Donald Woods, Linda Stockwell, George Miller Jr., Jim Miller, Janet Miller, Joyce Graham, Larry Bookhamer, Gretchen Curtice, Alma Bridgeman, Shirley Ballew, Thelma Moirao and Robert Nelsen.
