SHREVEPORT, LA - Mrs. Margaret Swayze Gill, 84, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012 after a lengthy illness and the grief of losing her husband of 66 years, Ray Gill, who passed away on December 30, 2011, which led to the decline of her health.
Margaret was born in a rail road car in McGregor, TX on March 30, 1928. Her father worked for the rail road. As was common for rail road employees of this era, she and her family lived in a rail road car. She lived most of her early years in Rayville, LA and moved to Shreveport, LA in the mid 1940's. She was retired from Bell South. Margaret was an artist, a wedding photographer, loved gardening and playing with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tracy and Vesta Swayze; her husband, Ray Gill, an infant daughter, Linda Sue Gill and siblings, Buddy and WT Swayze and Ruby Joiner. She is survived by her daughter, Shelia Rogers and husband, Stephen; sister, Sue Taylor; grandchildren, Melinda Deas and Shayne Dixon, Stephanie Gaines, Melissa Rowland, Murray Rogers, Brett Rogers, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Margaret and Ray, who could not stand to be apart will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Providence Road Baptist Church. Officiating will be Bro. Chris Young.
The family extends their appreciation to the Bradford, Willis-Knighton South and the Promise, for the excellent care of both Margaret and Ray.
