Howard Swartz was born in Kithener, Ontario, Canada, on July 7, 1897, the son of Issac W. and Susannah (Staufer) Swartz. He attended school in Canada and later moved to Michigan. On October 9, 1922, Howard was united in marriage to Ruth Jennings in Detroit, Michigan. Howard was employed as a Safety Engineer for the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan for over 30 years. He retired in 1953 and his wife died in 1955. Howard moved to Ashby, Minnesota in 1965 and to Alexandria in 1974. He died on Thursday, March 22, 1984, at the Douglas County Hospital at the age of 86 years.
Howard is survived by sons: Howard G. Swartz of Alexandria; David W. Swartz of Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri; daughters: Mary Hustad of Fergus Falls; Kathleen Poston of Las Vegas, Nevada; Susan Brown of Spokane, WA; Sarah Zickur of Alexandria and Winifred Thompson of Ashby. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister, and one son.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 24, 1984, at 2:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Chapel, Alexandria, Minnesota with Rev. Nancy Larson officiating. Interment was in Kinkead Cemetery, Alexandria, Minnesota. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
