Clara Dunlavy

Clara LeGrand Swan Dunlavy, 93, of Pleasant Manor in Mount Pleasant, died at 820 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, 1996, at Pleasant Manor.

Born April 17, 1903, in Morning Sun, she was the daughter of E.M. and Mabel Paisley Swan. She married Ernest C. Dunlavy on April 9, 1944, in Henry County. He died July 8, 1983.

Mrs. Dunlavy was a graduate of Iowa Wesleyan College, recieved her master's degree from the University of Iowa and attended Parsons College in Fairfield. She was a homemaker, had taught at country schools in Henry County and North Dakota and worked as a librarian at H.J. Nugen Library in New London.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Mount Pleasant, Eastern Star Salem-Mount Pleasant Chapter for 50 years, and was past matron of Oak Leaf Chapter of Eastern Star in Salem.

Survivors include one son, Richard Dunlavy of Savannah, Ga.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elizabeth Jones of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today at Elliott Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Dunlavy will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Larry Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery, New London.
