On August 6, 1998, Carma Rozina Spencer Swain, a truly dedicated and selfless wife, mother, and daughter, passed away. Her abundant dinners, creative decorations, and quiet support will be fondly remembered and missed by all who loved her.
Carma was born in Mount Pleasant, Utah on May 29, 1939. She was the fourth child of the seven children born to Orien and Viola Shepherd Spencer. Carma graduated from Lehi High School in 1957 and was president of the Girls Athletic Association. During her senior year in high school, she met her husband, Fred E. Swain. They were married on November, 20, 1958 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.Carma's dream was to be a mother, and she valued her role as a mother highly. After five years of marriage, they were blessed with their first daughter. Seven children eventually came to Carma and Fred's home. She loved her children as individuals and made them each feel that they were special. The bulk of her hard work and service was directed toward caring for her family. Because she loved us so greatly, we truly loved her.
Through the years, Carma was involved in many different church, school, and community organizations. Most of her service in these areas involved music and children, two of her favorite things. She sang in the Payson chorale. She volunteered in P.T.A. for many years. As her children participated in band, she worked for many years with the Band Boosters, including a year as president of this organizations. As a dedicated member of the L.D.S. church, she served in every organization, but her heart was always with the young nursery age children. She spent many hours coloring and cutting pictures for the nursery.
Carma is survived by her husband, Fred E. Swain of Payson, Utah; and by her seven children: Darlene (Trent) Argyle, Fred (Sheri) Swain, Dayna (Charles) Wolfersberger, Mariann (Vincente) Liddiard, Lynette (Yoshihisa) Komiya, Don Swain, and Janet Swain. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her mother, Viola Spencer; and by her six brothers and sisters: Marjorie Larson, Blake Spencer, Loraine Healey, Clark Spencer, Stephen Spencer, and Michael Spencer.
