Agnes Aksamit was born June 2, 1912, to Rudolph and Cora May (Gibson) Svoboda in Lawrence, Nebraska. She departed this life on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at her home in Edgar, Nebraska at the age of 98.
She was raised in Deweese and graduated from Deweese High School in 1931. On June 28, 1933, she married Longin W. Aksamit in Nelson and to this union four children were born. She and Longin retired in 1970, and moved from their farm near Deweese into the community of Edgar. She and Longin shared 69 years of marriage before his death in 2003. She lived at Leisure Village in Edgar for the last 17 years.
Agnes loved the farm life and her garden was her pride and joy. She enjoyed cooking and baking especially during the holidays and other family get-togethers. Her kolaches and potato dumplings will be remembered by everyone. In her younger days she enjoyed roller skating and polka dancing. She could always be counted on to help with any sewing project that needed to be done. Her kindness to other (sic) will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughters, Margaret & husband Alfred Anderson of Blue Hill; Lucille & husband Jim Speake of Hastings; son, Kenneth & wife Myra Aksamit of Lawrence; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Donald, sister Lorene, brother Lawrence, 2 grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Graveside services were held Saturday, March 5, 2011, from the Fairfield Cemetery in Fairfield, Nebraska with Rev. Stephen Price-Gibson officiating.
