In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Roy Surratt and Kenneth Surratt of Lakeland, Fla., Raymond Surratt of Pineville, W.Va.; and sisters, Hazel Thompson of Mann, W.Va. and Juanita Taylor of Bluefield, Va. Mrs. Melvin retired from Tultex as a seamstress. She was a member of Brentwood Baptist Church.
Surviving are her son, Daniel Melvin and wife, Teresa, of Narrows; granddaughters, Amanda Melvin, of Christiansburg and Jessica Foster and husband, Gary, of Pearisburg; great-grandsons, Tyler and Braylon Foster, of Pearisburg and Anthony and Jaxson Melvin, of Christiansburg; great- granddaughter, Kambi Foster, also of Pearisburg; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens
