She was born June 24, 1926, in Brown County. Her parents were Fred J. and Edna (Floyd) Surber. She married Merville "Buster" Clarkston in 1950. He preceded her in death in December 1962. She then married Daniel E. Smith on Nov. 4, 1962, in Franklin. He survives. Other survivors include two sons, Ronald L. Clarkston of Franklin and Gerald D. Clarkston of Margate, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Sherry J. Percifield of Franklin and Trudy Newcomer of Lincoln, Neb.; four sisters, Hazel Haase of Largo, Fla., Maggie Brewer of Martinsville, Peggy Dell of Texas and Betty Allen of Mooresville; a brother, Fred Surber of California; 13 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Winnie Brummett.
She attended Brown County schools. She was a homemaker and was employed by Chevrolet Truck and Bus Group in Indianapolis for 10 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Franklin Assembly of God Church.
Services were entrusted to Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home in Franklin, Indiana.
