Levi Surber, 81, was another of those pioneer sons of the county to pass to his eternal rest within the last few weeks. He was a native of Tennessee and at the age of eight came to Kerr county with his parents. He had lived on the Surber farm for the last 73 years.
He was a retired farmer and peace officer, and had served as constable in Center Point.
The services were held in the Smith Chapel with Rev W.A. Richardson, pastor of the First Christian Church in Kerrville. Rev W.S. Bunton of the Center Point Baptist Church assisted. Internment was in the family plot in the Center Point Cemetery.
The survivors are his widow, Mrs Carrie Surber of the home address; five daughters, Miss Helen Surber of Center Point and Mesdames Ethel Blanton, Winnia Heintz, Carnie Lee Singleton and Cubie Ellen Powell, all of San Antonio, and three sons; Levi R Surber and Vernon Surber of San Antonio and George H Surber of the United States Navy. One sister, Miss Matie Surber of Medford, Oregon and one brother, Steve P Surber of Iowa also survive.
The pallbearers were S.J. Watters, J.S. McElroy, F.C. Nelson, C.E. Sikes, W.L. Colbath and W.N. Hood.
Mr Surber died Tuesday of last week in his home at Center Point and the last sad rites were Friday afternoon.
