Obituary: Cuba NY Patriot, April 25, 1919
Olive S. Chamberlain
At her home in Rockville, on April 16, 1919, occurred the death of Olive Sumner Chamberlain, after a month of severe illness. She was born in Rockville on June 25, 1837, and has been a lifelong resident of this vicinity. On March 24, 1864, she was united in marriage to James F. Chamberlain of Belfast. To this union were born seven children, all of whom surviveóRev. G. S. & and W. H. Chamberlain, Miss Harriette and Mrs. Sara Knight of Rockville, Mrs. Edith Angell of Belfast, Mrs. Chester Wetherall of Olean, and Harry C. Chamberlain of Steamburg, N. Y. All were privileged to help care for her in her last sickness and attend the funeral, which was held at the home Saturday. Rev. Allen, her pastor, spoke from the words II Tim. 4:7, 8, "I have fought a good fight. I have kept the faith; Hence there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness."
The deceased was converted in early life and belonged to the M. E. church in Belfast. Afterward, when the Free Methodist class was organized in Rockville, she, with her husband, joined there. She was a faithful, consistent, consecrated Christian, who devoted her life to her Savior and brought up her children in the fear and admonition of her Lord. Of her it might well be said, "It was more than her meat and drink to do her Master's will." She was laid to rest beside her husband in Riverside cemetery, Belfast, to await the resurrection of the just. Much sympathy is felt for the daughter, Miss Harriette, who has devoted the past eight years to her parents and cared for them, and who will miss her sorely.
"Farewell, mother; we will meet you just beyond the eastern gate, over there! "
