Johnnie Dorman, age 99, of Tifton, GA passed away of natural causes on October 19, 2006. She was born October 17, 1907 to the late William Henry and Mamie Felts Sumner. Mrs. Dorman had lived most of her life in Lakeland, FL and had resided with her son for the last nine years. She was an avid reader, Bible scholar, writer of poetry and enjoyed crocheting. She was a skilled musician, teacher, evangelist, businesswoman and homemaker. She attended Tift County schools, Lee Bible College in Cleveland, TN and Stamp-Baxter School of Music in Cleveland, TN. She was the last surviving charter member of the Union Grove Church of God, charter member of he Lake Wire Church of God in Lakeland, FL and a member of the West Lakeland Church of God.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Claude Dorman, who passed away in 1979; two sons, Flavis Claude Dorman and W.R. Dorman; five brothers and nine sisters. Survivors include her son, Rev. Tommy (Wilda) Dorma of GA; Deigre (Jamie) Kendrick of GA; two great grandchildren, Julianne and Emily Kendrick of GA; special nephew, Gary Jackson of Lakeland; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 20, 2006 at 7 p.m. at Union Grove Church of God. The family will receive friends Friday, October 20, 2007 from 5-7 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery. (bio by: Cy)
