Betty Summers Albright, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the age of 86. Betty was born on January 23, 1921 in Sidney, Texas, to Thomas and Melissa Summers.
Betty grew up in Sidney, Texas and she attended Sidney High School where she played on the Basketball team and graduated in 1938. She later met a man who was heard saying when he first laid eyes on her, "I'd marry that woman without asking her name!", and he did. His name was Thomas Jefferson Albright and he and wife gave birth to their only child, a daughter they named Sue Ellen.
Betty and her husband moved to Baytown and she took a job working at the Exxon Plant until the birth of her daughter in 1952.
She was an active member of the 2nd Baptist Church in Baytown for 55 years, and was a Lady Shriner. In her free time she enjoyed working in her yard, quilting, and spending time with her friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Cullum Summers and Mellissa Gressett Summers; her loving husband Thomas Jefferson Albright; brothers, Wilson and Dean "Junior" Summers; sister, Francis Flippo; step-mother, Stella Jones; and step-brother, Billy Cade.
She leaves behind the love of her life, Buster Hargraves; her daughter, Sue Ellen Cook and her husband Butch of Kenedy, TX, brothers, Rodney Summers and his wife Judy of Snyder, TX, and Royce Summers and his wife Larue, also of Snyder, TX; sisters Juanita Franklin and her husband Howard of Baytown, TX, and Nelda Larson of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren, Bart and Brandie Cook; four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
The family will be receiving friends on the evening of Wednesday, January 31, 2007 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Earthman Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Road in Baytown, Texas. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2007 at 10:00 a.m., also at Earthman Funeral Home, with Reverend Tommy Clements of 2nd Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at San Jacinto Memorial Park in Houston, Texas.
