THE DEATH OF MICHAEL SUMMERS
Michael Summers passed away yesterday morning at his home west of Stockwell. He had been a resident of the county since 1830, coming here when he was three years old, and was one of the oldest and most highly esteemed citizen of the township in which he lived. He was a son of Michael Summers, Sr., who was born in Virginia, and was born in Ross county, Ohio, November 19, 1827. He helped to clear away the land on which he lived for years in this county and became a very successful farmer. He accumulated considerable wealth which was represented by over 500 acres of well improved land. He was married on April 7, 1864, to Miss Mary A. Corkins, who survives. Two children, Alva B. and Henry E. Summers also survive. Mr. Summers was well advanced in years and his death was caused by complication of diseases. His education was limited, but he was a man of strong character and was practical in everything that pertained to life. He was a splendid example of the self-made man, admired for his integrity and splendid qualities, and there was no one who stood higher in the estimation of the public. He was liberal in his dues and was progressive in his ideas.
He helped to improve the country and lived to see it become one of the best improved parts of the state. He was always ready to help the worthy and was a model citizen in everything that applies to citizenship. He was honored by all who knew him and his death is deeply regretted by his neighbors and friends.
Michael and his wife had four children: Alice E, born September 28, 1865; Alva B. 1866; Henry E. born April 11 1869; and Bertie E. born October 16, 1870. He was a member of the Mutual Insurance Company, and also belonged to the Horse Thief Detective Association. His farm was located on Section 10, in Lauramie Township.
