She attended Seneca Indian School at Wyandotte, and Haskell Institute, Lawrence, Kan. She entered federal service with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, in Chicago, on May 30, 1944. In July 1945, she entered the U.S. Navy (WAVES), in Bronx, N.Y. While in boot camp, she was a member of the U.S. Navy Singing Platoon, which broadcast over CBS. She graduated from the U.S. Navy Hospital Corps School, New York, and was assigned to the U.S. Naval Hospital, Corpus Christi, Texas. She was honorably discharged in August of 1946 as a Pharmacist Mate, Third Class. She was proud to be a veteran.After military service, she was assigned to the BIA Regional Office, Oklahoma City. Upon its closure, she transferred to the Muskogee Area Office.Promoted in 1953, she served under several area directors until retiring in April of 1982 after 37 years of service.She was affiliated with many organizations throughout the years.On Nov. 16, 1948, she married William B. (Sonny) Smith. From this union, two daughters were born, Nancy and Lisa.Later, on July 2, 1976, she married Louis L. Sullivan, thereby gaining a son, Mike. She loved the outdoors, her home, and yard, which was featured in the Christmas Home Tour, Garden Club Tour, Kendall Place Historical District Tour, and the spring 2007 edition of Green Country Living. She was a very organized person, active in her community, and always busy. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and mother-in-law and will be truly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis, on March 2, 2001; and four brothers, Stute, J. B., Alex, and Eli Coffee.She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Gassaway (Louie), and Lisa Moore of Muskogee; a son, Mike Sullivan (Melissa), of Franklin, Ind.; grandchildren Ryan Gassaway (Malaynee), Grant Gassaway (fiancee Jennifer Nassar), Dolly Trickey (Randy), Brad Sullivan, Damien Sullivan, Evan Sullivan (Megan), Ashton Sullivan, and Kendsi Sullivan; great-grandchildren Wyatt Gassaway, Levi Gassaway, Reese Gassaway, Jackylin Carlin, Nash Trickey, and Mikayla Sullivan; one sister, Jessie Still, of Tahlequah; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
