John L. Buddy
PORTLAND -- John L. Buddy Sullivan, 80, of Robinson Road, Scarborough,
died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at Maine Medical Center.
John was born in Portland, a son of John T. and Helen Conley Sullivan on
April 7, 1926. He attended Portland schools and was a 1944 graduate of Cheverus High School.
Upon graduation, John joined the U.S. Navy and served his country for two years. He went on to a career with the New England Telephone Company as a Telephone Technician for 42 years.
John enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling and sports. He was also a communicant of St. John The Evangelist Church.
He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Ruth E. Cogan Sullivan, in 2002.
Surviving are his children, E. Gayle Mercurio and her husband, John, of York Harbor, Anne E. Winslow of Scarborough, John Sullivan and his wife, Rosa, of San Antonio, Texas, Stephen Sullivan of Scarborough, Brian Sullivan and his wife, Sandra, of Scarborough, Thomas Sullivan and his wife, Karen, of Scarborough; sisters, Dorothy Barrett of Braintree, Mass. and Mary F. Berry of Portland; two brothers, James A. Sullivan of Portland and Philip Sullivan of Birmingham, Ala.; and 14 grandchildren, Stephen, Elizabeth, and Michelle Winslow;
Jamie, Nicholas, and Alexander Mercurio; Patrick, Erin, and Jessica Sullivan; Sean and Brendan Sullivan; Daniel, Conor, and Jack Sullivan.
Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2006, at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited 8:15 a.m. Monday at the Chapel, followed
by a 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John The Evangelist
Church. Burial will follow in the family lot at New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
