2008 obituary. SOUTH PORTLAND -- Catherine M. (Kay) Sullivan, 72, of South Portland passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at her home surrounded by her very large and loving family. She will be remembered for the many lives she touched during her 41 years at her current residence. She was born on Dec. 1, 1935, in Portland. She grew up on India Street and enjoyed the annual summer Italian Bazaars at St. Peters church. She attended North School and Jack Junior High before attending Portland High School. Kay played on the tennis team for four years and it was one of her favorite times in her life. She enjoyed singing and dancing and starred in some of the annual high school plays which were held at City Hall. Her friends were proud of her solo tap dancing performances. Kay devoted her life to raising her nine children and family was the most important thing to her. There were many family outings to Sebago Lake State Park and Sunday dinners with family after Mass. She was very busy all the time but always had a sparkling clean house; a home cooked meal, and spent quality time with each and every one of her children and grandchildren. She taught all of us the importance of being a tight knit and loving family along with her extreme work ethic. Kay was well known for visiting the local markets which she visited often. Some of her favorites were Hannaford's, Shaws, Asia House, CVS, Mister Bagel and Today's Nails. She met and made many friends along the way and everyone who knew her enjoyed seeing her smiling face. She loved driving her Cadillac around town listening to her favorite music. One of Kay's favorite things to do was make her famous spaghetti and meatball dinners. Every time she cooked she invited all. Everyone who visited with Kay will always remember the many Italian foods and cookouts that were enjoyed with all her children and many loving friends and neighbors. These special gatherings were some of the most important times in all our lives and will be some of the best memories that all who knew her will remember. Everyone left her house with a smile and a full belly. Kay is predeceased by her son, Brian Sullivan; as well as her parents, Marion and Pasquale (Patsy) Paolino; and her sister, Patricia Queen. The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation for all the loving care given to the Sullivan family during this difficult time, and a very special thank you to Dr. DeGrinney and to the exceptional staff at Mercy Hospital. Kay, your family will go on forever. Your kids will love and miss you each and every day. You will always be beautiful in our eyes! Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland will provide visitation services, Thursday, Feb. 14, 4-8 p.m. A traditional Catholic Mass will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 15, 9 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Rd., South Portland with the Rev. Father Knox and the Rev. Father Gendreau officiating, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.
