John E. Sturgis of New Holland
John E. Sturgis, 86, husband of Charlene Sturgis of New Holland, formerly of Kennett Square, died on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Garden Spot Village.
Born in Machipongo, Va. on January 13, 1926, he was the son of the late St. Elmo and Maude Saunders Sturgis.
John was a builder in the Kennett Square area from 1965-1986 when he retired. He was an Army veteran of WW II. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Church of New Holland.
In addition to his wife of 65 years, John is survived by a son, John K. Sturgis and his wife Florence of Kennett Square; a daughter, Kristie Wright and her husband Arthur of Parkesburg; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A son, Scott Timothy, died in July 2002. John was the last of eight children with five brothers and two sisters, preceding him in death.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, at the Chadds Ford Baptist Church, 415 W. Baltimore Pike, Chadds Ford. A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, March 30, at Christian Fellowship Church, 758 Spruce Road, New Holland with visitation from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made, in John's memory, to County Corrections Gospel Mission, PO Box 1136, Coatesville, PA 19320.
