BELLINGHAM - George Putnam Sturgis II, 44, a Bellingham resident since 1984, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007, at MetroWest Medical Center in Natick after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Susanne (Comeau) Sturgis for 23 years.

Mr. Sturgis was born in Boston, a son of Robert M. and Katharine "Kitty" (Ray) Sturgis of Sherborn. He was a 1982 graduate of Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School in Franklin.

Always an automobile enthusiast, Mr. Sturgis had owned and operated Sherborn Auto Care for 19 years. In 2004, he joined his brother-in-law, Mark McMullen, in opening G & M Auto Services of Millis. An emergency medical technician, he served as a captain with Sherborn Fire and Rescue for 10 years and remained active with the Sherborn Fire and Rescue Association.

Mr. Sturgis enjoyed boating and snowmobiling and was a longtime member of the Sports Car Club of America.

Besides his parents and wife, he leaves four daughters, Alicia M. Hogge and her husband, Richard, of Medfield, Kristin L. Buckler and her husband, Josh, of Sherborn, and Stephanie R. Sturgis and Heather K. Sturgis, both of Bellingham; three grandchildren, Savannah, Ryas and Jamis Hogge; a brother, Robert M. Sturgis Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, of Ashland; his parents-in-law, Joseph and Donna (Moore) Comeau of Medfield; three sisters-in-law, Lisa Morris of Brockton, Elizabeth McMullen and her husband, Mark, of Wrentham and Michelle Dauber and husband, David, of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at the Pilgrim Church, 25 South Main St., Rte. 27, Sherborn, Friday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m.

Calling hours will be at the Roberts-Mitchell Funeral Home (, 15 Miller St., Medfield, Thursday, Nov. 8, 4 to 8 p.m.
