Mrs. Phylanthia Elizabeth Foltz, d/o Henry J. and Cassie Stump, was born in Jasper Co., IL, 30 Aug 1854, and departed this life at her home near Newton 16 Jun 1940, at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 14 days.
While a young girl she was converted and united with the United Brethren church. Later in life, she united with the Gila Lutheran church and continued in this faith until the Lord called her home. In Nov 1874, she was united in marriage to John M. Foltz, who preceded her in death, 28 Jan 1940. To this union were born three children, Miss Myrtie and William D. Foltz at home and Ross E. Foltz of near Newton. She also leaves to mourn her departure nine grand-children, fifteen great grand-children, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Gila Lutheran church, Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Alvin O. Jacobs of Newton. Burial was in the nearby cemetery beside her husband.
