Helen Stroupe Baum, 93, of Manteo died Thursday, Dec. 15, at her residence. Born in in Morganton, NC, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Cordelia Rhodes Stroupe and the widow of Balfour J. Baum, Sr. Baum was a retired secretary with the Dare County Tourism and Selective Services. She also was a member of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Baum Salgado of Australia and Helen C. Baum of Manteo; one sister, Doris Morris of Morganton; two grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. One son, Balfour J. Baum, Jr., also preceded her in death. A celebration of life was held Monday, Dec. 19, in Manteo Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Cribb and Rev. Albert Sikklee officiating.
