Arthur Newton Stroupe, 81, of Stanley, a retired carpenter for the Pennsylvania Railroad, died Monday morning in the Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 10, 1886, at Stanley and had spent his life in that area.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Polly Jenkins Stroupe, a daughter, Mrs. Thelma Offenbacker of Stanley; eight sons, Elwood Stroupe, of Fairfax; Frank Stroupe of Manassas; Roy Stroupe of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; Dennis Stroupe of Elkton, Rev. Calvin Stroupew of Shenandoah, Jesse, Robert and Kenneth Stroupe all of Stanley; twenty one grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. today at the Warren G. Kyger Funeral Home with the Rev. Alvin W. Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Jenkins Cemetery near Pine Grove.
