Steven Leroy Strickert, 65, of Anacortes, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Providence Medical Center in Everett, WA.
He was born on February 26, 1949 in Anacortes, Washington, the son of George and Alyce Strickert. Steven grew up in Anacortes and attended local schools, graduating from Anacortes High School in 1967.
He served in the US Army as a helicopter mechanic and was honorably discharged. Steven married Jo Ann Fors in 1969, and they lived in Kodiak, AK for 20 years, where he was employed as a contractor/carpenter for the US government.
After the death of his wife in 1990, Steve eventually moved back to Anacortes in 2011 to be near his family.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Alyce Clark; his father, George Strickert; his wife; Jo Ann Strickert; and nephew, Landon Strickert.
He is survived by his brothers, George Strickert and Robert (Cathy) Strickert, both of Anacortes; and nieces and nephews, Rhonda Jensen, Scott Strickert, Aaron Strickert, Carin Fors, and Kirstin Fors.
The family wishes to express much heartfelt gratitude to the hospitals and care facilities that supported Steven through the years, especially to Kodiak Island Hospital and Providence Hospital of Everett, along with Dr. Creelman and team in Kodiak, and Dr. Blackadar of Anacortes, for their excellent care and concern shown to Steven and his family.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Grand View Cemetery in Anacortes.
