Mrs. Bernice Emmer, of Martin Avenue in Fredonia, passed away at her home in Fredonia surrounded by her family on Friday evening, March 18, 2005. She was 82 years old.
Bernice was born on Aug. 4, 1922 on the family farm in the Town of Belgium, daughter of Lawrence and Mary Schmit Straus.
She was united in marriage with Lawrence Emmer at St. Maryís Catholic Church in Lake Church on Sept. 28, 1940. The couple moved to the Fredonia area in 1946.
Bernice was a member of Holy Rosary Parish, St. Rose Chapel of Fredonia were she was a dedicated volunteer. She was a member of the Christian Motherís Society and the choir. She was in charge of the kitchen work and ran the church dinners for many years as well as helping with the craft fairs and bake sales. She enjoyed handcrafts of all sorts, needlepoint and quilting.
Bernice is survived by two daughters, Connie Kriewaldt of Fredonia and Penny Hartwig of Random Lake; one sister, Marie (Raymond) Broecker of West Bend; seven grandchildren, Jesse, Janine, Mary, Larry, Paul, Amy and Katy; seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; one daughter, Mary Ann; one son, Paul (the late Marie); two brothers, Raymond and Valentine Straus and four sisters, Sr. Viola Straus OP, Viola Emmer, Martha Ries and Margaret Depiesse.
