Lizzie J. Stratton Dunning, 97, departed this life early Tuesday morning, November 28, 2007, at Appomattox Health and Rehab Center.
She was born November 22, 1910, to the late Robert and Elizabeth Stratton in Nelson County Virginia.
She attended public school in Elma, Virginia. She worked in her home, church and community, her passions were sewing and crocheting. On December 25, 1932, she married George J. Dunning and to this union there was six children born. Three preceded her in death.
Lizzie joined Ebenezer Baptist Church and sang on the choir, taught Sunday school, and was a member of the ladies auxiliary until her health forced her to become inactive.
She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Susie Williams of Mt. Rainer, Maryland, Shirley Pilgrim of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Alfred Dunning of Clinton, Maryland; one son-in-law, one daughter-in-law, one sister-in-law, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2007, at Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Reverend Roger Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow at the Walker Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
J.F. Bell Funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.
