She and her husband, Paul Lincoln Strand, were married in Mobile, Alabama on 16 May 1933. They initially lived in his home town, Cleveland, Ohio, where their first child was born in 1936. They then moved to Los Angeles and had five more children. Cathryn had a single sibling, Alice Lucy Jackson Adelman (1912 - 1980) who spent most of her life in Cleveland and died in Mayfield Heights, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, on 20 Mar 1980.
