Elaine Mildred Ferber, 83, of Dalton, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, at Timberlake Nursing Home in Kansas City, Mo., surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 9, 1923, in Fairmount, N.D., to Henry and Margaret (O'Meara) Strait. She attended school in Fairmount until she was 12 years old and then moved to South St. Paul where she finished the rest of her education.
On Nov. 30, 1940, she married the love of her life, David V. Ferber, Sr., at Grace Lutheran Church in South St. Paul. Elaine worked at Armour and Company and then took a position with Greetings Unlimited until her husband was transferred to Kansas City, Mo., in 1965. She then worked for the area school system.
In 1974 Elaine retired along with her husband, David. They enjoyed many years at Ten Mile Lake near Dalton in the summers and returned to Kansas City for the winters. They decided to move back to Dalton in 1994 to spend the rest of their retired days.
Elaine worked at the Ten Mile Lake Steakhouse until 2005. She loved her home at Ten Mile and working at the resort doing various jobs with family and friends.
Family members will miss the devotion that she gave as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. They will never forget the love that she gave to each and will forever be in their hearts.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, David; three children: Darlene (Donald) Radke of Hastings, David (Lucy) Ferber, Jr., of Grandview, Mo., and Denise (Mike) Malott of Independence, Mo; seven grandchildren: Todd, Vanessa, Ted, David, Bianca, Heather and J.D.; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pat (Ron) Gable of Seattle, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Margaret Strait; and a sister, Marilyce Doll.
Visitation: Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Saviors Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church, Dalton
