Francis E. Stout, M.D., 53, 106 Riley Road, died Friday at his home after a long illness. His offices for obstetrics and gynecology were at 2423 W. Jackson St.
Dr. Stout was a past president of Delaware-Blackford County Medical Society, past president of the Ball Memorial Hospital staff and past president of the Delaware County Cancer Society.
He was a member of St. Mary's Parish, Rotary Club, Elks Club 245, Delaware Country Club, and Muncie Chamber of Commerce. He was past president of the board of Newman Apostolate. He served on the board of directors of Merchants National Bank and the executive board of United Fund of Delaware County.
His professional affiliations were with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, of which he was a diplomate, and he was a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and of the American College of Surgeons.
Born in Muncie, Dr. Stout was a 1939 graduate of Central High School. He attended Ball State University and received his B.S. degree from Indiana University in 1942 and his M.D. degree from the IU School of Medicine in 1944.
Dr. Stout was a captain in the Army Medical Corps in World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. Upon his discharge, he took post graduate training at the University of Chicago Lying In Hospital and Coleman Hospital, Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis.
He opened an office here for private practice in 1953 abd was appointed to the teaching staff of the IU School of Medicine.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Sowar Stout; five children, Mrs. Albert E. Bianco, Tarrytown, N.Y., William F. Stout, Milwaukee, Wisc., Barbara L., Thomas L., and Mary Alice Stout, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Harley Stout; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Stout, also of Muncie; a brother, Howard E. Stout, Munster; and his wife's mother, Mrs. Leonard Sowar, Muncie.
Father James Bates, Father William Grady and Father Patrick Kohl will celebrate the Mass of the Resurrection at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Private burial services will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery.
Meeks Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. There will be no calling hours.
Memorials may be sent to the Francis E. Stout Memorial Fund of Newman Apostolate, St. Francis of Assissi Parish.
