William taught school in Osnabrock and area for several school terms starting in 1894. Additionaly he also was the local Postmaster and newspaper publisher in Osnabrock.
William 1st married Annie Baxter on Christmas Day 1903 in Emerson, MB. Annie was an immigrant from England. Through this marriage Annie gave him 3 children Ella, David, and Annie. Annie died during the flu epidemic leaving him to raise the children alone.
William remarried on 17 April 1921 to Mrs. Emily (Carr) Matthews, another native of England. Along with her daughter Anna Mae Emily gave him 3 sons; William, George, and Howard. Due to complications in childbirth to Howard Emily and Howard both passed away in 1925.
William never remarried. By 1930 Willam and his two youngest children moved to Langdon where they lived with his eldest daughter Ella and her family.
William died in his sleep in 1941.
